The Wellness Spending Account (WSA) is a paid benefit that promotes an active body and/or active mind by reimbursing employees for eligible fitness and wellness-related expenses. Fitness and wellness-related expenses are generally categorized as healthy weight, exercise, nutrition, reduced stress, smoking cessation and mental wellness, just to name a few.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be an active employee enrolled in the benefit plan. This benefit is for employees and their families. This is a taxable benefit to the employee.

Claiming Deadline

The WSA benefit year is January 1 to December 31 each year and expenses must be claimed within the year they are incurred. Expenses cannot be carried forward to the next benefit year.

If you have unused credits at the end of the benefit year, there is a 30-day claims run-off period that allows for prior year's eligible expenses to be claimed. Any prior year's expenses claimed after the run-off period will not be paid.

Unused credits at the end of any benefit year are rolled over to your WSA account for the following benefit year. If they are not used by the end of the second benefit year, they are automatically forfeited.

Claiming Guidelines

Submit your WSA claim online through mybluecross®. Or, submit an WSA claim form with itemized receipts in your name.

If a receipt does not clearly identify the item or service claimed, further proof of purchase may be requested.
